Chautauqua County monitoring Covid-19 outbreak at Dunkirk factory | Local News

An outbreak of Covid-19 at a food manufacturing factory in Dunkirk is being monitored by the Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services, County Executive P. J. Wendel reported Monday.

A total of 30 positive cases – 24 workers and six close contacts – have been associated with Fieldbrook Foods, Wendel said.

Public Health Director Christine Schuyler said the first positive Covid-19 test result from Fieldbrook Foods, which makes ice cream and frozen desserts, was reported Aug. 16.

“The initial case investigations found several cases associated with this employer, indicating the potential for a larger outbreak to occur,” Schuyler stated . “As such, we have been proactively working with the New York State Department of Health and the administration of Fieldbrook Foods to manage and control the spread of disease.”

She noted that the county will hold a Covid-19 testing clinic for Fieldbrook Foods employees.

The company has been cooperative, she added, and is following necessary precautions.
