Caribbean power watch: Hydro procurement, regulatory tweaks

The Guyana Energy Agency received three offers in the EPC procurement call for the 1.5MW Kumu and 0.7MW Moco Moco hydro projects.

The bidders were Vidullanka (US$13.9mn), Nabi Construction-HPP (US$14mn) and Cummings Electrical-Dingli (US$16.4mn), according to information from the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board.

Luma Energy will deliver the final technical interconnection study to Puerto Rico energy regulator PREB by May 30 for the projects approved in tranche 1 of power utility PREPA’s renewable energy and storage call.

Luma, which took over transmission and distribution operations from PREPA for 15 years last June, provided the update in a filing to the watchdog.

Dominican Republic power regulator SIE launched bidding to evaluate and reformulate the methodology for calculating firm capacity and its remuneration.

SIE also will hold a public hearing on May 12 to present a proposal related to the methodology and implementation of the general procedure for calculating the technical tariff of regulated users supplied by distributors Edesur, Edeeste and Edenorte.
