Bus bay to come up at Tin Factory

The project will help ease up traffic at the busy junction


For any motorist, commuting near the Tin Factory is nothing short of a nightmare. Buses stop every few seconds to pick up and drop commuters on the extremely congested road, and drivers and riders have to stop and wait behind them.

But these traffic ordeals will soon be a thing of the past as a large bus bay is going to come up on an acre of land opposite Tin Factory in Jyothipuram. Officials said the bus bay will come up in place where the Sri Chowdeshwari Devi Temple temple is located and will have enough space to accommodate around 10 buses at a time. A second bus bay smaller in size has been proposed near the Tin Factory.

Officials from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Friday conducted a joint inspection of the busy junction on the Old Madras Road to finalise the plan. Sources said that BMRCL would be acquiring more land for constructing these two bus bays.

Officials said the bus bay will ensure government and private buses heading towards Hoskote, Marathahalli, and Mahadevapura do not stop on the road to pick and drop passengers. The bus bay could also emerge as an important hub for commuters as KR Puram Railway Station is at a stone’s throw distance. The BMRCL is also constructing a Metro Station at the junction. Sources said that BMRCL has agreed to provide land and construct a new temple as officials will be razing the old temple for the bus bay’s construction.

Metro construction halted

At Jyothipuram Metro station, construction of the Metro has stopped as officials are waiting for permission to cut 91 trees near Benniganahalli Lake. However, the Metro extension towards Whitefield is nearing completion.
