Burlington Coat Factory fire in toy area under investigation

ONTARIO – The cause of a fire at the Burlington Coat Factory at 580 N. Lexington-Springmill Rd. remains under investigation, according to Springfield Township Fire Capt. Mike Mullins.

On Tuesday, Mullins said the business remained closed following the Monday afternoon fire. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called to assist Springfield Township with the investigation. The fire is believed to have started in the toy area of the retail store around 4 p.m. Monday, he said.

Mullins said there was heavy smoke damage throughout the store. Employees and customers were evacuated. The sprinkler system did not put out the fire and firefighters had to extinguish the blaze.

Madison Township Fire Department provided mutual aid.
