Building Safety Month 2022

Building Safety Month is an international campaign that takes place in May. Although you may not think of building safety as a form of public safety, it is through building codes that we can ensure individuals, families and businesses create safe and sustainable structures.

This year’s theme is “Prevent, Prepare, Protect. Building Codes Save.” Our Building Safety team members work daily to prevent, prepare and protect our community through:

Energy and Innovation

Interested in solar? We have an easy online permitting process:

We are also offering virtual inspections for rooftop solar projects and more:

  • Schedule your inspection online at LasVegasNevada.gov/ScheduleInspection
  • Note in the comments that you want a Virtual inspection and what mobile phone number will be used for Skype or FaceTime.
  • On the day of your inspection, the inspector will call you to arrange a time for the virtual inspection.
  • Go to Check Status to see who is your inspector and their phone number for questions.
  • Problems with scheduling? Call our Dispatcher at (702) 229-6914

Disaster Preparedness

Understanding the Four Phases of Emergency Management can help us better prepare for natural disasters.

Our Building and Safety team, through our Emergency Support Function Plan, is equipped to respond to a major disaster by way of a mobile construction trailer outfitted with the necessary items needed to have a building department on the move.  Paired with a mobile generator, our team can mobilize and be available for disaster assessments, inspections, permitting and plan review operations to respond effectively to any major disaster.

We also have a process to help repair smaller disasters in a timely fashion. Learn more about our disaster assessments.

Water Safety

Whether it is a privately owned pool or a community one, it is very important to mitigate any potential safety hazards to reduce the risk of injury. Read 10 important tips for pool safety.

Nationally, drowning is a leading cause of death for children under the age of five. The Southern Nevada Chapter of the International Code Council (SNICC) provides toddler swim grants to all the jurisdictions in the community to provide swim lessons to children and help promote pool safety. Register for city of Las Vegas swim lessons.
