Broomfield company building $300 million can factory in Pennsylvania

BROOMFIELD, Colo — Ball Corp. is buying a 1.1 million-square-foot building in Pittston, Pennsylvania, and spending more than $300 million turning it into an aluminum can factory expected to employ 230 people.

The Broomfield-based can and beverage packing giant (NYSE: BLL) announced the project Wednesday.

The site selection for its two-line plant adds some detail to the company’s planned expansion meant to meet fast-growing demand for aluminum cans for beer, hard ciders, wine, water and a growing roster of other drinks being canned.

“Our new Pittston plant is Ball’s latest investment to serve accelerating demand for our portfolio of infinitely recyclable aluminum containers used in the sparkling water, spiked seltzer, beer and carbonated beverage categories,” said Daniel Fisher, Ball Corp.’s COO of global beverage packaging.

The company will operate more than 20 North American aluminum can factories once the Pittston site and a plant being built in Glendale, Arizona, open.
