Boxes of produce to be distributed in Danbury

DANBURY — Produce will be distributed to families in need on Wednesday morning.

The distribution is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farmers to Families Food Box Program, which supplies dairy, meat, and fresh fruits and vegetables to food banks, community and faith-based organizations, and other nonprofits.

Friendly Hands Food Bank in Torrington qualified for the program. State Rep. David Arconti, D-Danbury, United Way of Western Connecticut, and various city and school officials worked to bring the event to Danbury for a day.

Distribution begins at 10 a.m. at Rogers Park Middle School and runs until all the food is gone. Food will be given out in a contactless way, with a box being placed in people’s cars. One box per car will be given.
