BMW Manufacturing set a new production record in 2019 with 411,620 X SUVs produced, topping the previous record by 449 units (411,171 in 2016).

The South Carolina plant remained the largest plant by volume in the group’s global production network. 2019’s output:

  • X4: 65,557
  • X5: 161,096

Last year, 159,277 X models produced at Spartanburg were sold in the US, accounting for 49% of all BMW brand US sales. The top two models were the X3 and X5.

Since 1994, BMW has produced 4.8m units in the US and spent $10.6bn on the plant.

Spartanburg produces 1,500 vehicles a day, exporting about 70% to 125 markets.

The factory has production capacity of 450,000 vehicles and employs 11,000 people.
