Bloomfield Man Arrested for Possession of a Loaded Handgun and CDS Distribution

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Omar B. Whittaker, 44, of Bloomfield, for possession of a loaded handgun and CDS distribution today.

In response to citizen complaints of narcotics sales, members of the 6th Precinct Crime Prevention Team patrolling the area of Chelsea Avenue near Tremont Avenue, observed Whittaker exit a SUV and engage in drug sales. Officers also observed a handgun, which was loaded, inside his vehicle. 

Whittaker was immediately arrested. He was found in possession of two Ziplock bags of marijuana and $1,742.00 in suspected proceeds from drug sales.

Whittaker faces charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon (defaced handgun), CDS distribution, possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense and possession of marijuana.

These charges are mere accusations. This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
