Bethenny shares a recent allergic reaction to fish that left her daughter ‘terrified.” She advises people with allergies to always be prepared.
Bethenny Frankel was on a trip with her daughter when she faced a medical emergency after eating fish, which left her daughter Bryn Hoppy terrified. Bethenny, formerly on The Real Housewives of New York, shared on the show that she was “deathly allergic” to fish. In 2018, she recounted to the Housewives a similarly terrifying incident that left her almost dead. After unknowingly eating soup that had fish in it, Bethenny had a severe allergic reaction that had her immobile that first time. Thankfully, her now-fiancé, Paul Bernon, was with her and he was able to get her help.
Since then, Bethenny has been super vigilant about what she ingests. Bethenny was on a flight shortly after her allergic reaction that almost had to be turned around because the airline was serving fish, despite Bethenny notifying them about her severe allergy. The pilot wanted to turn the plane around but the former RHONY star insisted they keep going because it would have caused delays for the passengers. Bethenny clarified to fans that fish allergens are transmitted by touch and air, and don’t have to be ingested for it to cause a reaction. Since then, she has been outspoken about airlines changing their policy to remove fish from their menus.

Fans flooded Bethenny’s Twitter with good wishes and many have shared their experiences with food allergies as well. Bethenny’s advice to her fans was to know where the nearest hospitals are while traveling and to have a point of contact who will always pick up the phone. She advises people to plan ahead because mistakes can happen. Many fans applauded Bethenny for being outspoken about her incident and especially Bryn for handling it so bravely.
Bethenny is using this incident as a platform to bring awareness to severe allergies and advise people to carry Epi-pens and antihistamines with them at all times. She also tweeted about how expensive EpiPens are and is now thinking about a “side charity effort on this topic” for her daughter Bryn. Bethenny became known for her philanthropic efforts when she provided aid to victims of natural disasters. She founded her charity B Strong in 2017 and since then has helped distribute aid packets and gift cards to people that have lost their homes in natural disasters, mostly in Puerto Rico. Hopefully, any side charity will be just as effective.
