Behind the Scenes: Gratitude amidst challenge– a holiday season like no other

Article content continued

I am deeply appreciative of the adaptability and tenacity demonstrated by our management team amidst the pandemic’s challenges. These professionals have worked tirelessly to identify new ways of delivering exceptional patient care. Their roles may look completely different than they did a year ago, but their commitment to our patients’ needs have not waivered.

For many, working at a hospital is not only a job, but a vocation or a calling, to provide care for our community. To make a difference in someone’s quality of life has profound meaning and purpose for those who work at CCH.

I am proud of this team’s strength. Not only have it faced difficulty and disruption in its members’ personal lives, like everyone impacted by COVID-19, but it continues to greet new challenges every day when its members come to work. Wearing extensive personal protective equipment during 12-hour shifts can be hot and uncomfortable; having time off denied to help avoid staffing shortages is difficult; responding to rapid changes in the practice of patient care is exhausting. Even modifying lunch breaks to keep safe distance from their peers adds to the sense everything has changed.

Still, the effort put forth by our team every day leaves me humbled.

Gratitude is the sentiment I want to express most this holiday season. Every single staff member and physician at the hospital has made some type of sacrifice, in order to serve the community – it’s important that we know and acknowledge this. At times like this, we can only meet the needs of our community by having the right people, the right team. I’m so grateful to everyone who works at CCH, and proud of their efforts to make a positive difference for our patients.

From our hospital family to yours— wishing you good health, peace, and joy in 2021.
