The U.S.’s largest retailer of automotive parts and accessories is expanding its logistics capabilities on the East Coast.
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s office announced that AutoZone plans to spend $185 million to build a new 800,000-square-foot facility in New Kent County.
The location will serve as a warehouse and distribution center for the retailer, as well as a direct import center. The project will create 352 new jobs and offer close proximity to the Port of Virginia.
“With over 145 stores in the Commonwealth of Virginia and more than 735 stores in neighboring states along the East Coast, we are very excited to be a part of the New Kent community and Greater Richmond region,” AutoZone Chairman, President, and CEO Bill Rhodes said in a news release.
New Kent County received a $2.5 million state grant for the project, and AutoZone is eligible for job training incentives from the Port of Virginia.
AutoZone’s North American footprint includes some 6,800 retail locations, including 6,000 in the U.S., that carry parts for cars, SUVs, vans, and light trucks.
