Association of Organ Procurement Organizations chooses new CEO

The Association of Organ Procurement Organizations announced Steve Miller as its new CEO. Miller will begin his position on February 17.

According to a press release, Miller has experience in several professional areas and has most recently served as the chief operating officer at the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA), and before that as director of government and public affairs for the ASCA. He also previously held positions at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Health Care Association, the Office of Rep. James Bilbray and the Office of Sen. Harry Reid.

“As a certified association executive with decades of experience in health care, government relations, strategic planning and public relations, his history of accomplishments and success speaks for itself. We are excited to have him lead AOPO in this new decade,” Kelly Ranum, AOPO president and CEO of the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency, said in the release.

As CEO, Miller will lead the association and work with the 58 federally designated member organ procurement organizations to maximize the organs and tissues available for transplantation and to increase the quality, effectiveness and integrity of the organ donation process.

“I am thrilled to be joining this critical, lifesaving community,” Miller said in the release. “The simple truth is that organ donation provides tens of thousands of people with a second chance at life, and I look forward to working with the AOPO board and staff to tackle the challenges facing the community as we chart a dynamic path forward.”
