STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As Staten Islanders continue to experience hourslong wait times at coronavirus (COVID-19) testing sites, two local elected officials have announced they will be giving away free at-home rapid tests to constituents this weekend.
Assemblymen Mike Reilly and Michael Tannousis plan on distributing more than 2,000 test kits Sunday, Jan. 9, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at two locations.
Each test kit contains two COVID-19 antigen rapid tests that produce results in approximately 15 minutes.
South Shore
Assemblyman Reilly (R-South Shore) will hold a drive-through distribution event at Wolfe’s Pond Park. Visitors are asked to enter the parking lot at Cornelia Avenue and Hylan Boulevard.
East Shore
Assemblyman Tannousis (R-East Shore/Brooklyn) will hold an event at the South Beach Boardwalk. Visitors are asked to enter parking lot 8 at Hunter Avenue and Father Capodanno Boulevard.
Due to the limited number of test kits available, only one kit per registrant, per vehicle will be provided. Residents are asked to pre-register for the giveaway via an online form that can be found here. Registrants will receive instructions via email to arrive in a certain window of time on Sunday to collect their kits.
