Andhra Pradesh governor Biswabhushan Harichandan
VIJAYAWADA: Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan on Wednesday wrote to the state government asking it to take “necessary action” on the representation of Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar seeking his reinstatement as state election commissioner (SEC).
The Governor, in a letter to Ramesh Kumar, who met him at Raj Bhavan on July 20 and submitted a copy of the AP high court order seeking his reinstatement as SEC, said he had carefully examined the representation along with the copy of the HC order, and directed the state government to take appropriate action.
Harichandan, however, did not ask the state government to reinstate Ramesh Kumar as SEC. He referred the HC order and the instructions of court in the contempt case to the state government. This gives relief to the state government working on its strategies including seeking a stay on the contempt case filed against it.
The state government had referred the contempt case of the high court in the Supreme Court and had sought a stay on further hearing. Government sources said they are confident of the SC giving a stay on further hearing of the contempt case in the HC.
Meanwhile, government whip G Srikanth Reddy accused Ramesh Kumar of serving the interests of TDP rather than the SEC or the electorate. He wondered how Ramesh Kumar was able to engage highly-paid advocates to argue his cases in the HC and SC. He found fault with Ramesh Kumar for allegedly holding consultations with political leaders in a hotel while claiming to be holding a constitutional position of the SEC.
