Andhra Pradesh government allays procurement fears of paddy ryots | Amaravati News

AMARAVATI: State government has urged the paddy farmers not to resort to distress sale as all the procurement centres linked with Rythu Bharosa Kendra (RBKs) have already started operations. The government had also asserted that procurement cost will be remitted directly into the farmers’ accounts within 21 days of the procurement.
Speaking to the media in the secretariat on Monday, civil supplies commissioner K Girija Shankar said they have already procured nearly 17 lakh metric tonnes of stock during the current season. He said they would procure nearly 50 lakh metric tonnes during the kharif season. “We have already paid Rs 1,153 crore to about 76,000 farmers across the state within the stipulated deadlines. A few farmers were unable to get the dues due to some technical glitches in linking the Aadhaar with their bank accounts,” said Girija Sankar.
He explained that about 2.35 lakh farmers sold their stock to the state government in different centres in which nearly 70,000 farmers got their dues.
AP civil supplies corporation managing director G Veerapandiyan said there was no need to worry about the procurement of the paddy anywhere in the state. He said they have been regularly monitoring the procurement operations on daily basis and taking corrective measures wherever it was required.
“The state government has completely removed the rice millers from the procurement operations. Entire process is being handled by the officials at RBKs,” said Veera Pandiyan. He said the paddy is being procured right at the farm gate and farmers would not need to visit any officer or mill to sell their stock. He said they have also distributed gunni bags required to pack the stocks.
He said distribution of fortified rice comprising folic acid, vitamin B-12 and iron through Public Distribution System (PDS) was launched in Vizianagaram on pilot basis about a year ago. He added they were planning to launch distribution of fortified rice through PDS in Kadapa and Visakhapatnam districts shortly.
He further said they would start distribution of additional quota of rice under PMGKY scheme from January, 18. and added they were setting up state command control room to handle the grievances of the paddy farmers. He appealed the farmers to call on 1902 or 155215 toll free numbers to lodge their complaints regarding paddy procurement.
