Amazon’s huge, El Paso distribution center is even larger than the company previously reported.
The five-story fulfillment center, where hundreds of workers fill orders for Amazon.com customers, has 2.6 million square feet of space, not 625,000 square feet as Amazon officials previously reported.
That makes it the largest industrial building in the El Paso area, said Adin Smith, president of Sonny Brown Associates, an El Paso commercial real estate services firm.
It’s one of the largest Amazon fulfillment centers in the United States, said Daniel Martin, an Amazon spokesperson.
The facility, opened in late 2021, is located at 12101 Emerald Pass Drive, near Eastlake Boulevard and Interstate 10, in a booming area of far East El Paso County.

The fulfillment center’s footprint is 625,000 square feet, and that’s the number company officials have used in public statements about the facility. However, add all the inside floors, and the square footage more than quadruples.
Martin recently confirmed to the El Paso Times that the larger square footage is the accurate number. He didn’t know why the larger number was not publicly reported, he said.

The El Paso Times asked the square-footage question because a recent El Paso industrial market report by CBRE Group, A global commercial real estate services firm, showed a 2.6 million-square-foot industrial building completed in the fourth quarter of 2021 in El Paso. However, CBRE officials declined to say if that was the Amazon facility.
Conveyor belts move among the five floors to transport items as employees pick and pack customers’ orders, Martin said.
The facility employs about 700 people.
