A massive distribution facility under construction in Mt. Juliet being built for Amazon that will bring 1,000 jobs, was formally announced Friday by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.

The facility is projected to have 3.52 million square feet of warehouse space and 80,000 square feet of office space on land on land off Golden Bear Gateway, East Division and Athlete’s Way North, according to plans submitted during the approval process.

Plans for the facility are for five stories and a height of 92 feet, according to plans submitted.

Mt. Juliet approved the project in October 2019. Multiple sources had confirmed the project was linked to Amazon during the approval process.

Amazon.com Services was also listed as the buyer of two tracts with East Division Street addresses needed for the facility, according to Wilson County property records.

Job types have been described as “world-class” high tech and “next generation” and would include fulfillment, tech, robotics, logistics and managerial white collar positions with several levels of employment, Panattoni Development Co. representatives said during the approval process.

The facility will be a robotics center, according to statements made at the hearing.

Road improvements, greenway trail and sewer connection are among conditions Mt. Juliet has required for the development during the approval process.

The facility is also expected to provide about 1,000 jobs, Gov. Bill Lee said on Friday.

The distribution facility is expected to process “hundreds of millions of online orders,” in the coming years.

The target date to open is late 2021 according to an Amazon representative at Friday’s announcement.
