Alarmist Brewing

Alarmist Brewing is a small, independent craft brewery on the NW side of Chicago. Here’s the deal: we won the first ever GABF Gold Medal for Juicy/Hazy IPA in 2018 with Le Jus. Things have gone off the rails ever since and we need help getting more Le Jus and a host of other beers into the hands and mouths of our customers! We also LOVE our lagers with our Crispy Boy German-style pilsner being one of our core beers.
We need a brewer/cellar person who wants to be exposed to EVERY part of the craft brewing experience. We are only interested in highly experienced candidates, this is not an entry level position. Here’s some of what you’ll be doing:
- Wort production on a 20 bbl 2-vessel system.
- Cellar management of all of our 60, 40, and 20 bbl vessels.
- Exceptional focus on cleaning and sanitation of both inside and outside of vessels.
- Yeast management and dealing with yeast quality control.
- Contributing and improving all safety and environmental protocols at all times.
- Brewery forecasting, planning, recipe formulation, and cost analysis.
- Ingredient ordering and tracking including hop forecasting for contracts.
- Loading & unloading of supplies and finished beer both manually and with material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jack)
- Safely and efficiently lifting/moving 55 lb sacks of grain, full kegs, equipment, and more. Fun fact: We have a brand new grain silo/mill/chain disk grain handling system.
- Occasionally attending and/or assisting with events such as festivals, brewery tours, retail samplings, etc.
- Solving problems and improving existing solutions and processes with a focus on details, details, details. This is crucial.
- Contributing to all aspects of the business including marketing ideas, business strategies, merchandising ideas, you name it. No pigeonholing at Alarmist Brewing, you’re part of a team.
- Schedule is determined by the yeast. Flexibility with weekends and evenings required (but SHOULD be fairly rare). We strive for 40 hour work weeks, with lots of flexibility on time off.
We love technology here: MacOS, iOS, Slack, Ekos (very important!), Google Workspace, spreadsheets, etc. You’ll want to know your way around this stuff or be able to learn quickly.
You need to be smart, self-sufficient, quick thinking, hilarious, and not afraid to ask questions or provide answers. Alarmist Brewing is a very fun place to work but we take our beer very seriously.
We are literally in the process of setting up health and dental insurance and 401K for all team members. This will be provided in writing.
