AGO Names 2 Suspects Garuda’s Aircraft Procurement Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Attorney General’s Office has named 2 suspects in the alleged corruption case in the procurement and lease of aircraft at Garuda Indonesia. Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin said that the two suspects are SA, the VP of Strategic Management Office at Garuda; and AW member of the airline’s ATR aircraft procurement team.

“For investigation purposes, suspects SA and AW are being detained at the AGO’s branch of Salemba Prison,” Burhanuddin said in a press conference on Thursday, February 24.

SA and AW are among the six people being investigated in the case. Burhanuddin said the AGO has also confiscated some evidence, including 580 documents that have been clustered based on the type of aircraft procured. There is also a box containing documents for the trial of cases by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Burhanuddin said the AGO is working with the Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP) to calculate the state loss incurred.

“We will announce it soon. But the figure might be quite significant,” he said.

Burhanuddin also said that the AGO will continue to coordinate with the KPK, as the antigraft body has completed the case of bribery in aircraft maintenance and procurement, as well as the case of money laundering.
