A busy candle factory in Dhaka

Candles, an essential item for households, were developed independently in many places throughout history.

Currently, hundreds of candlemaking factories are set up in Bangladesh to meet the local demand. Workers on Saturday, were seen busy melting wax, and molding them into shapes.

The candles are usually bought in bulk by wholesale traders from the factories, and get sold at local grocery stores.

The photos were taken by Dhaka Tribune’s photographer Mehedi Hasan from the capital’s Kamrangirchar area.
