Textile factory at Mengkibol badly damaged in blaze

KLUANG: An inoperative textile factory located at the Mengkibol Industrial Area here has been badly damaged in an early morning fire on Saturday (Sept 19).

Johor Zone 3 Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohamed Faiz Muin Mohamed Rasidi said the fire broke out around 2am on Jalan Teknologi 2.

Four fire engines from the Kluang, Renggam and Ayer Hitam fire stations were deployed to the scene after an emergency call was received around 2.30am.

A team of 35 firefighters sprung to action to put out the blaze upon arriving at the 3,716sqm factory, he said.

“Efforts to put out the fire is still ongoing since we arrived at the scene at 2.42am, and we expect to take more than 12 hours to extinguish it completely.

“The packed storage and cotton textiles at the factory posed difficulties for us to put out the fire, ” he said at the scene.

He added that the textile factory had not been operating for the past six months, and nobody was in the building when the fire broke out.

Faiz Muin added that investigation is ongoing to find the cause of the fire and losses.
