Pegatron has entered the supply chain for Tesla, according to company chairman Tung Tzu-hsien.
Tung did not specify the role of Pegatron in the Tesla ecosystem, but industry sources indicated that the company supplies components for the central control system of Model 3.
Pegatron has been developing electronic components for electric vehicles (EVs) and autonomous driving for 5-7 years, and there will be many business opportunities in the future, Tung said at a forum.
Taiwan-based IT makers used to have difficulties entering the supply chains for fuel cars, but now stand many chances of supplying electronic components or devices for EVs, Tung indicated.
The output value for EV-use components or devices is much higher than that for smartphone-use ones, Tung said.
Pegatron has also diversified business to making contact lenses, precision metal, automotive electronics, components for 5G communication, AI, IoT and medical equipment, Tung noted, adding the developments and productions for these segments are mainly based in Taiwan.
