France urges Bridgestone to look at alternative options for factory under threat

PARIS (Reuters) – France on Wednesday urged Japan’s Bridgestone 5108.T to look into alternative options for a French tyre factory it is planning to close due to low demand and high competition.

French Labour Minister Elisabeth Borne and Junior Economy Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher said in a joint statement they were in total disagreement over Bridgestone’s plans to close the factory in Bethune, northern France.

The factory employs 863 people and has a production capacity of about 17,000 tyres a day.
