Edible insects: London’s agri-food sector lands unique factory

At the plant, crickets will be hatched and grown on-site and will become a tasteless, odourless protein powder that will be sold as a food additive, and will also be used to make protein bars.

Ashour is already in talks with food manufacturers about using the powder as a protein supplement, and he sees a market in the pet food sector as well.

“It’s a great addition to our cluster of more than 90 food and beverage companies,” said Kapil Lakhotia, chief executive London Economic Development Corp.

“We’re very excited for this win at a critical time as we look to rejuvenate our economy going forward during the pandemic.”
