Varta starts building new Li-Ion battery factory

The development will be funded as part of a the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) programme and Bavaria is contributing €32 million euros for R&D  at the Nördlingen site, with the German federal government is contributing another €70 million euros.

Bavaria’s Prime Minister Dr. Markus Söder and the Secretary of State in the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Roland Weigert are attending the ceremony.

In total, VARTA  is getting  more than €300 million in funding from the federal and state governments.

In the new plant, lithium-ion cells with a 39%  improved energy density will be manufactured in the future.

VARTA Group plans to apply technology to larger formats in the future.
