Coronavirus Scotland: Factory workers suffer the highest virus death rate | Scotland

Factory workers and machine operators account for the highest number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in Scotland, figures show.

The latest analysis also reveals that city residents are four times more likely to die from the virus than those living in the countryside.

The National Records of Scotland (NRS) figures show that, after correcting for age differences in the populations, there were 116.8 deaths involving Covid-19 per 100,000 people in large urban areas between March 1 and June 30, compared with 26.8 per 100,000 in remote rural locations.

The gap was substantially smaller when considering the rate of deaths from all causes, where it was 1.4 times higher in large urban areas than in remote rural areas.
