YAMUNANAGAR: A major fire broke out early morning at a steel factory namely Vishwakarma Enterprises on Link Road in Jagadhri town of Yamunanagar district on Sunday, turning the entire unit into ashes.
As per the information, the fire which broke out following heavy rain and electric short circuit is suspected to be the reason behind the incident.
Factory owner Naresh Kumar said he received the information early morning at about 6am that a fire had broken out in his factory and reached the spot.
The fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and doused the flames after a struggle of about 2 hours.
Yamunanagar fire officer Parmod Duggal said the factory did not possess fire no objection certificate (NOC) and a fuel tank kept inside had caught fire.
“We received the information at 5.45 am and the fire brigades were rushed to the spot from Jagadhri as well as Yamunanagar fire stations and we used foam to control the flames as it was oil which caused its outbreak. We managed to control the fire and cool it in about 2 hours of operation and nobody has received any injury in this incident”, said Parmod.
To a query, Parmod said, “We will issue a notice to the factory owner as the unit did not possess any NOC from the fire department.”
Factory owner Naresh said, “The factory was closed in the night and we suspect that as the weather was rainy it may have caused an electric short circuit and sparking which caused the fire. Firstly the wires caught fire, then motors, and then it reached the fuel tank, following it got spread in the entire unit. We have suffered a loss of worth lakhs and the exact amount can be ascertained after proper estimation. We lost fuel worth about Rs 10 lakh, furnace worth about Rs 15 lakh, sheds, motors, and others.”
