Coronavirus Victoria cases update: Cluster at Coles distribution centre grows

The coronavirus cluster at a Coles distribution centre in Melbourne’s southwest is continuing to worsen.

A fourth case of COVID-19 was diagnosed in a worker at the facility on Sunday.

It was one of 49 new cases reported across Victoria – the largest single-day rise in cases in the state since April 2.

A risk review assessment will now be carried out, Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said.

“We need to do a risk review just to make sure that we’re crossing off all of the required actions to make sure that there aren’t additional cases coming out of that outbreak,” he said.

Cleaning of high-traffic areas is underway.

Staff shifts have also been adjusted to limit the number of people using break facilities at the same time.

Coles says all staff at the facility are undergoing testing.

The first case of COVID-19 was reported at the centre last Tuesday.

“Coles conducted contact tracing and a small number of team members identified as having had close contact have been instructed to self-isolate and be tested for COVID,” a statement read.

“Coles’ standard cleaning procedures comply with government hygiene and safety guidelines.

“As an added precaution, Coles has conducted additional deep cleans of the facility.”
