Alleged baby formula distribution syndicate busted in Bankstown

A syndicate allegedly running a coordinated baby formula theft and distribution operation has been busted by NSW Police in Sydney’s south-west.

Detectives formed Strike Force Polar earlier this year to investigate complaints from local retailers in the Bankstown area about a suspected coordinated theft and on-supply operation of baby formula.

On Tuesday, two people were arrested as part of the investigation, and Bankstown Police Area Command said further arrests were expected.

A 45-year-old man was taken into custody after being pulled over by police in Padstow on Tuesday morning.

A short time later, detectives raided a business in Bankstown and a home at Chester Hill.

A police spokesperson said “significant quantities” of baby formula were found, along with various other items which were believed to be stolen.

A 41-year-old female owner of the Bankstown store was also taken into custody.

The pair is expected to be charged later today.
