Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport was forced to close for a short time on Saturday (May 2) after a bomb threat was made against a Taiwan-based China Airlines’ cargo flight.
The freighter was forced to divert to the Alaskan Airport after taking off from Seattle, en route to Taipei, after a bomb threat was called in to the Port of Seattle.
However, no device was found and the airport quickly re-opened.
The Anchorage Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation said: “To ensure everyone’s safety, law enforcement response to this incident required the temporary closure of the airport. The airport has since been reopened. After extensive investigation, no explosive device was located.
“Investigation at the airport has been completed, however, the investigation into the source of the threat continues. The FBI does not believe there is any continuing threat to our community as a result of this incident.”
During the closure many flights diverted to Fairbanks Airport, including an An-225 flight.
China Airlines operates a fleet of 18 B747-400 freighters.
