Pollution of Black, Azov Seas, criminal proceeding opened – Criminal proceeding opened due to marine pollution in Crimea by oil products from Russian tankers

The Black and Azov Seas near Kerch in annexed Crimea are polluted by oil products and other combustive and lubricating materials from the tankers of the Russian Federation. The criminal proceeding opened due to this fact as the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea reported.

“The Prosecutor’s Office of the autonomy and Chief Directorate of the National Police in Crimea and Sevastopol opened the criminal proceeding due to the marine pollution,” the message said.

It is noted that the pollution of the Black Sea and Azov Sea took place after the overfreight of Russian tankers with oil products and other combustive and lubricating materials.


The pollution is spotted in the neutral waters of the Black Sea to the south from Kerch Strait and at another three sites, with the total square of more than 24 square km.

As we reported, police of Crimea served charges to a man, who was a member of the illegal armed formation volunteer public order patrol Rubizh and participated in the seizure of Khmelnytsky vessel.
