RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina can now receive additional emergency assistance for COVID-19 after the federal government granted Gov. Roy Cooper’s request for a major disaster area declaration. The state now counts more than 630 positive COVID-cases as of Thursday morning and announced two deaths. Several major population centers in the state have issued stay-at-home orders to shut down work at nonessential business that are more restrictive that what Cooper has ordered statewide. Restaurants can still offer takeout food, and child care centers that want to remain open next week must meet more stringent health and safety guidelines.
