CHARLESTOWN — Daytime traffic will be reduced to a single lane on the King’s Factory Road Bridge for five days, beginning Monday and ending Friday, Feb. 28.
A team from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation will be conducting soil tests, known as borings, which will be used to determine the design of a new bridge.
Built in 1964, the Kings Factory Road bridge crosses the Pawcatuck River in Charlestown and Richmond. The bridge has been determined to be structurally deficient and will be replaced at a future date, which is still to be announced.
While the work is taking place, a police detail will direct drivers into one lane of alternating traffic. During non-working hours, both lanes of the road will be open.
