Supply chain problems may mean that the sidewalks on Farmington Road between Grand River Avenue and Orchard Street will not reopen before the end of the construction season in late November.
City officials hope to have the sidewalks on the east side of Farmington Road open, but the west side may not be done, said Chuck Eudy, superintendent of public works.
They are aiming to reopen Farmington Road by Thanksgiving, he said.
The area in the city’s downtown is undergoing a streetscape project designed to make it more pedestrian-friendly.
The road will be reconfigured from two lanes in each direction to one and a left-turn lane. Sidewalks will be wider. Plantings and decorative lamp posts will be added.
The city received a state grant that will pay about half of the $3 million cost of the project, Eudy said.
