TikTok Plans to Build U.S. Warehouses

TikTok seeks to build product warehouses in the US, creating an e-commerce supply chain system that could potentially rival Amazon. The video hosting service is advertising 389 job openings in Seattle, consisting of software engineering, data science and analytics, e-commerce, e-commerce monetization strategy, retail category leadership, and more.

“By providing warehousing, delivery, and customer service returns, our mission is to help sellers improve their operational capability and efficiency, provide buyers a satisfying shopping experience and ensure fast and sustainable growth of TikTok Shop,” the company wrote in one job listing.

The plans affirm the social network’s commitment to its shopping business in the West, having already reached success in China, where TikTok Shop sales have tripled year over year.

A TikTok spokesperson declined to comment on the recent roles. Nevertheless, in a statement to CNN, the spokesperson said the company is “focused on providing a valuable shopping experience in countries where TikTok Shop is currently offered across Southeast Asia and the UK, which includes providing merchants with a range of product features and delivery options.”

Nevertheless, the company failed to launch a successful e-commerce product in the UK, reportedly falling short of sales targets. In response, influencers and brands stopped out of the scheme, and the company halted plans to implement shopping features across Europe.
