Chick-fil-A distribution center proposed in Lexington County | Columbia Business

LEXINGTON COUNTY — Fast food giant Chick-fil-A is eyeing Lexington County for its next major distribution center.

The Georgia-headquartered restaurant chain known for its mannered workers and “Original Chicken Sandwich” has opened two such distribution centers in the Southeast over the past couple years. Lexington County is expected to be home to its third, according to a notice published by the county government.

The location and size of the distribution center is not publicly known.

Representatives of Chick-fil-A Supply were not immediately available for comment.

But the company’s first 216,000-square-foot distribution center in Cartersville, Ga., northwest of Atlanta, employs some 220 workers and supplies about 225 restaurants, according to the Chick-fil-A Supply company website.

The second center in Mebane, N.C., which opened in 2022 west of Durham, is 170,000 square feet and will employ 160 workers delivering to 150 restaurants.

“As Chick-fil-A restaurants continue to grow, Chick-fil-A Supply will grow and innovate to best serve them. Technology is changing, and we plan to stay on the cutting edge,” the company website said.

Lexington County residents will have a chance to weigh in on the proposed development deal during a public hearing Oct. 25.

The county is offering Chick-fil-A Supply tax credits to locate there as well as selling the company property it needs for its distribution center. The value of those tax credits is not yet publicly available.
