Mexican ports cargo volume up 9.3% through to end August

Mexico’s Ministry of the Navy (Semar) said that a total of 13,929 vessels arrived at commercial ports in the first eight months of this year, an increase of 1.6%, compared to 13,703 vessels during the same period in 2021.

Another sector with a significant rebound was motor vehicles by 11.2%, equivalent to 1.19m units, compared to 1.07m units in the same period last year.

Oil and petroleum products increased by 2.1% to 71.8m tonnes in January-August this year, compared to 70.3m tonnes in 2021.

Adding to the growth was agricultural bulk with an advance of 2.4% to reach 11.5m tonnes of agricultural bulk January-August this year, up from 11.2m tonnes in the same period of 2021. Meanwhile, bulk ore recorded a small annual rate advance of 0.3% to 43.9m tonnes.
