Forecasters believe Tropical Depression 9 will become a hurricane by Monday.

Various projected storm paths take it over western Cuba, then into the Gulf of Mexico, with a possible landfall somewhere on Florida’s west coast. Some paths then take the storm through the Florida peninsula.

Sand for the Merritt Island sandbag distribution is being provided by Brevard County Public Works.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office will have supervised inmate work crews filling and loading sandbags for residents.

There is a limit of 10 sandbags per vehicle.

Additionally, the county says sandbags can be purchased at home improvement stores and filled with dirt from your property. The county says people should not fill sandbags with sand from the beach.

All events at Mitchell Ellington Park on Saturday have been canceled.
