I had a career changed recently from the hazardous waste industry because they refused to pay me what I was worth… so I ended up working for a LTL company doing pick up and deliveries for business in the area.
I had a pick up for Apple Inc. and it didn’t hit me that I was picking up for “The” Apple Inc. I thought it was just another small business warehouse along my route… when I got there it was a white and grey sign that said “No unauthorized visitors” in the very familiar apple font that we associate apple with
And at first glance… the exterior building was a dump.. broken…. But blacked out windows, faded and chipped brick exterior, no signs indicating who occupies the building
Anyway I bump the dock and rang the bell and the giant shutter opens and when it opened and I glanced inside.. it was actually a giant open warehouse with clean painted floors, Clean interior walls, very bright overhead lights.
I looked deeper into the warehouse and I see 6-7 blacked out Mercedes Sprinter vans all parked in a row… I saw what I assumed an employee of Apple typing at the back of one with the rear trunk open like it was some type of work station. I mean No BS… it was very CIA like
Anyway two apple employees answered the door and they had 3 pallets of “who knows” it was wrapped with blacked out security wrap that you can’t see through
I started to test the waters to see how chatty I can get theses guys… because for all they know… I’m just a highly paid dumb jock truck driver
Anyhow… I asked “is this the “Apple” Apple I’m picking up for” and they causally said “yes it is” and then I said “ahh that explains all the CIA like security” and then I mentioned “it was liked that at the last facility I’ve been to in DC”
That’s when things got weird… they kinda paused and clammed up and started acting cagey… I shot them a glance and I said “relax… my last job I was a chemist in the hazardous waste industry… I picked up the lithium batteries and things that were destroyed that had to get destroyed again” and I went on how I was at a similar site that had a lot more security and couldn’t even use the bathroom
And they was like “ohhhh that make sense now” and the color returned to their faces… I made a joke and was like “geez whiz Apple got y’all wound” and he was like “you have NO idea” and I was like “yeah lol I won’t ask anymore questions”
I signed the bill of lading, loaded up my 3 pallets and I left… judging buy the shipping papers and the shipping labels…. These were RMA devices (macs, iphones, etc) heading to a non apple facility in Pennsylvania to be either repaired or destroyed who knows
Even more this could have happened today or I could be typing this from a computer at a mental hospital during my half hour of free time and could have imagined the whole damn thing 🤷🏾♂️
