Tiny home stolen from Shell Factory found burned to the ground

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. – A tiny home stolen out of North Fort Myers has been recovered, but not in the condition it was taken.

The home was stolen out of a Shell Factory parking lot two weeks ago. The builder has been looking for it since.

Richard Dunmire, owner of America’s Tiny Home Builders, said Lee County deputies were tipped off to the home’s location.

Before the home could be recovered, it was found burned to the ground in some woods off Bayshore Road.

Dunmire says whoever set it on fire removed valuable appliances like a bathtub, sink, windows, and sliding doors.

He says deputies were able to take him to the scene where a homeless camp was established.

Dunmire believes someone lived in the home before it was set on fire.

“I believe that they wanted better housing. A nice house to live in. It was beautiful,” said Dunmire.

He now plans to rebuild the tiny home from the ground up.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to report it to Crime Stoppers.
