Okanogan County Flash Flood, Mudslide Damages 2 Homes | Washington News

TONASKET, Wash. (AP) — A flash flood and mudslide Friday afternoon in Okanogan County damaged two homes, according to county emergency management officials.

Emergency management officials said the mudslide happened amid thunderstorms in a burn scar area with mud and water running down through Lightning Creek south of Wauconda, KREM reported.

Witnesses said water was 10 to 15 feet (3 to 4.6 meters) high through the narrow part of the creek channel. The slide reportedly took down trees while moving over a forest service road before fanning out, hitting two houses and pushing outbuildings up to one of the houses, officials said.

A couple was in one of the homes and evacuated by neighbors. No injuries were reported.

Bonaparte Lake Road was temporarily blocked at milepost 2 and power had been knocked out temporarily to about 15 homes, officials said.
