Garment workers vandalize Mirpur factory demanding pay raise

Workers from various ready-made garment (RMG) factories have reportedly vandalized a factory in Dhaka’s Mirpur area on Sunday, demanding pay raise.

They were seen damaging an Eastern Group’s factory on Sunday, at around 10:30am.

Multiple roads around the area were also reported to be blocked by hundreds of agitated workers since 8am, according to media reports.

On Saturday, thousands of workers blocked roads to protest against the price hike of daily essentials. 

The demonstration started at Mirpur-13 around 11am on Saturday. Thousands of workers from adjacent garment factories joined the protest in the area till 2:30pm.

On Thursday, the workers had mounted another protest demanding the same.
