Lucknow: Property worth Rs 10 lakh was gutted in a massive fire that broke out in a plywood factory in Habeeb Nagar area of Baazarkhala on Friday morning.
The smoke billowing from the factory was visible in about a 2km radius, leading to panic in the area as the factory is surrounded by other plywood factories.
Chief fire safety officer, Vijay Kumar Singh said that 10 fire tenders from Chowk, Indiranagar, Hazratganj, PGI and Bakshi Ka Talab were rushed to spot and took several hours to douse the flames.
“We managed to control the fire on time, otherwise if it had spread to other factories in the area, the losses would have been huge,” he added.
He also informed that a probe would be done to find out whether or not the factory had adequate fire safety equipment.
