Finance appoints new procurement board member

MINISTER of finance Iipumbu Shiimi has appointed City of Windhoek civil engineer Mary Shiimi (46) as new Central Procurement Board of Namibia (CPBN) member.

Ms Shiimi confirmed her appointment to The Namibian yesterday.

This came after the board had two vacant posts after the departure of board chairperson Patrick Swartz and his deputy, Lischen Ramakhutla.

Amon Ngavetene is currently acting as the chairperson of the board.

“This vote of confidence placed in me by the appointing authority is both humbling and challenging – a challenge I intend to meet by committing to build on the laurels established by the previous board, while advancing and expanding the CPBN’s work towards economic development,” she said.

She will serve until May 2025.

Prior to this appointment, she was a board member of the ministry’s review panel, and also sits on the PowerCom board.

She says she is honoured to have been appointed as board member.

“I’m aware of the scale and gravity of the responsibility to manage the procurement process in a transparent, ethical and professional manner. I am honoured to be chosen to serve my country at this level, and to make such important contributions towards CPBN’s mandate,” she says.

She holds a master’s of science degree in project management, a master’s of engineering in transport studies, and a certificate in management development.

The board is established in terms of Section 8 of the Public Procurement Act of 2015, with the principal object of conducting the bidding process, awarding of procurement and disposal contracts on behalf of public entities, and to enter into contracts that exceed the prescribed threshold for public entities.

The finance minister declined to comment on the matter.
