Japanese oil wholesalers to stop imports from Russia

Japan’s largest petroleum wholesaler, Eneos Holdings, has said that it has stopped importing oil from Russia. The move comes as the Japanese government prepares to ban all such imports.

The president of the company, Saito Takeshi, said at a news conference that Russian oil accounts for less than 5 percent of their total imports, and the company plans to switch to alternative sources, such as the Middle East.

He also said the last shipment arrived in April, and the company has no plans for further shipments from the country.

Another major Japanese supplier, Idemitsu Kosan, has also said that it will halt imports from Russia. They currently account for 4 percent of the company’s total imports.
Prime Minister Kishida Fumio has announced that Japan will ban imports of Russian oil, in coordination with other Group of Seven nations.
