WorldCargo News – News – More for rolling road from Rail Cargo

Last year, Rail Cargo’s RoLa (Rollende Landstrasse – Rolling Highway) services accounted for 170,243 trucks on the two routes – Brennersee-Wörgl and Maribor (Slovenia) -Wels.

Capacity on the Brenner crossing linking North East Italy with Western Austria and Southern Germany has been increased to 250,000 trucks a year, partly through introduction of a new Trento-Wörgl service, and later this year it will be increased to 400,000.

“All in all, this results in one RoLa train per hour each way on the Brenner corridor when fully expanded,” said Rail Cargo. “If the available capacity is fully utilised, there would be around 1,000 fewer trucks per day on the motorway.” Test runs were carried out in spring and autumn last year and “showed that this train programme can be managed,” the company said. To encourage uptake, prices have not been raised.
