The Jordan Customs Department has reportedly partnered with Maersk GTD to pilot the blockchain-based TradeLens logistics platform. According to The Jordan Times, JCD and Maersk signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will result in the establishment of a pilot zone in Jordan’s Aqaba Customs Center which will utilize the TradeLens platform for international trade.

TradeLens was developed by IBM and Maersk in 2018, with the goal of digitizing the world’s shipping industry. The platform relies on blockchain technology and is integrated with Internet of Things devices that enable it to monitor and track container temperature, weight, location, and other critical data.

Maersk GTD CEO Mike White noted that the agreement will provide a host of benefits for shipping stakeholders and help to connect the world’s supply chain:

White said in the statement that the agreement with the JCD unlocks the benefits of digital supply chain documentation and data integration with government agencies, logistic services providers, shippers, port operators and transportation companies for a more connected global supply chain.
