Father, son drown in factory tank

A seven-year-old boy and his father have died after falling into a tank at a rubber factory in Bataduwa, Galle on Friday (15), Police said.

The deceased have been identified as Senal Dinusha Gunasena (37) of Udabettawa Weddige, a resident of Hawpege Estate, Thalgampola and his son Sithuka Vinas Gunasena.

It has been revealed that the deceased father who was working in this factory was in charge of supervising the tank on that day and had come to the place with his son.

Police say that while showing the tank to his child, the child may have fallen into it and the father may have jumped into the tank to save him.

Workers at the factory say the tanks were built to cool machines at the factory. The deceased child is a second year student of Mahinda College, Galle. Police are investigating.
