Letter: Many concerns about the proposed Fufeng factory – Grand Forks Herald

I am extremely concerned regarding the Chinese-based company building a

corn milling plant

at Grand Forks.

I can understand city leaders wanting to grow – that is their job. But this decision extends far beyond Grand Forks and should include our governor and legislators in Washington.

I don’t believe China is interested in the city of Grand Forks, the residents or the state. They have much bigger plans. I have heard a lot of concerns about water usage, pollution, etc. My big concern is Grand Forks Air Force Base, near the proposed plant. Regardless of what is being said, ask yourself why China really chose Grand Forks. I read the Q&A from the COO of the company, and he stated, if asked, he would not share Air Force information with China. I find that a strange reply to the question. China will not ask for information; they will obtain it by surveillance and technology. No matter how American run and operated the COO and Fufeng representatives make it sound, it is Chinese-based.

A Chinese billionaire purchased 180 acres of land in Texas, with the intent of building a wind farm, near the Laughlin Air Base, and now a corn milling plant in North Dakota near our Air Base. Why? I also heard a news story that the company has been vetted and has no connections to the Chinese Communist Party. Do you really believe that? The company is based out of China. The Chinese Communist Party controls and knows everything about Chinese businesses.

I have heard about big paying jobs, executive jobs. Will those jobs really be filled by Americans or executives from China?

Once it is voted in and built, there is no going back and, as Americans, we have to use reason and common sense, make solid decisions for the future and not just today’s dollar. Beyond all else, we have to protect the privacy and integrity of our Air Force base.

I have no voting say in this matter. I just want everyone in Grand Forks to think to the future, not just today, analyze carefully before you make this very crucial decision. It may be the biggest, most important decision Grand Forks makes, not only for our state but our entire country.

I want to be very clear. The Chinese people are not our enemy, but the Chinese Communist Party is.
